Default 225/55 R17s will they fit?

Just wanted to know if 225/55's Tyres would fit? currently running 215/45 R17s standard WRX blob alloys. Reason I ask is my old man's got two sets of 225/55 winter tyres in his garage

There is a rim and tyre selector on this site. Check the notices towards the top of the page.

I've never used it, so it might still be worth the question asking about rubbing as opposed to fitting the rim.

Sound like Outback tyres!
Not sure about rubbing but with that size your speedo will under-read:
Showing 30mph you'll actually be doing 33,
50 you'll be doing 54,
70 you'll be doing 76 etc

I have 225-50 17 on my winter wheels, and whilst it gets the splitter up out of the snow it does affect the handling. Will go for 225-45 next time.
