Default Backing plates on brake pads

Sti 2002

Can these be removed as pads are half worn cleaned them and re greased them but i think these causing them to still squeak slightly

if its the s/steel shims then no they are a noise suppressant - more likely to be the pads or sticking caliper causing the noise rather than these shims

are they orientated correctly??

Yes mate calipers are not sticking and i cleaned all the rubbish out that i could see including airline

The squeal is not always there hard breaking never very light breaking never just sometimes on normal breakinh
