Unhappy

Hiya,

have had my MY02 WRX for about 3 weeks now and got the 1000mile service done a week ago. I've noticed that the front brake housings (excuse my lack of technical jargon - I mean the black bits that say 'subaru' on them and house the pads) have become covered with a white coat of what looks like dust (only it doesn't come off without serious scrubbing). Also, I'm getting some pretty back brake squeal, but only when dabbing the brakes lightly, not under proper pressure.

Have any of you other guys experienced this - is it some sort of heat and residue reaction?

cheers ears

Could be the Ali oxidising (i think the calipers are cast Ali), get it checked out asap.

If i were you i would demand new ones under warranty, worth a go

Yeah, it'll be the alloy oxidising ( going rusty!). That's what they do, I think it's unlikely you'll get them changed but it's worth a try I guess

Are you using a harsh wheel cleaner? This can add to the efect.

Good luck

Thumbs up

Oh bollox - my MR2 calipers have gone the same after I used "Alooy Wheel Clean" or whatever it is called. Great stuff for cleaning wheels though

That'll be the acid content in the wheel cleaner then........
