How many inches?

Brun,
What MY have you and what do you use the car for, track work, crappy roads, shopping trips
Also depends what you are willing to do to your suspension. Obviously if you are after ultimate performance you want:
A nice light alloy (which will therefore be susceptible to kerbing and deformation given hard use)
A tyre with a low profile sidewall (which will give less body roll and keep the centre of gravity of the car stable)
The combination of the above points probably neccesitate a compromise. You want a smaller alloy wheel diameter to reduce unsprung weight but equally you want a low profile tyre to reduce tyrewall flex. This is combined with the requirement to maintain your rolling radius so that your speedo does go to pot.
I'm running 18" on a 40 profile tyre and think it's a pretty good compromise. I your car is pre bugeye then the rolling radius needs to be 35 on an 18" wheel.
Very general observations (busy putting flamesuit on!) are that for a pre bug 17" are about spot on. For MY01+ 18" seem to work better.
The above assumes general <ahem> spirited driving on the road
Hope that this helps a bit.
Cheers,
Simon

Have a MY99 used mainly for the B road blast to work 10 miles away.
Don't do any track days so i'm not all that bothered about touching the suspension.
It's just occured to me, i need £3k. Wheels, suspension, leather and a shed load of horses. Sod the summer hols, i wanna cruise.
