Default Changing brake pads, advice please?

My 52 plate 2.0 Impeza wagon GX needs new rear pads. I have done the odd minor job to cars in the past, but this will be my first time changing the pads. I have also bought some copper grease and a cube shaped tool for pushing the caliper pistons back in. Can anyone give any pointers/advice? Should this be a manageable job?

Thanks alot in advance

Pedro

Hiya Pedro,

I'm sure a search on here will give you plenty of 'how to' guides on changing your brake pads.

I did the front discs & pads all round on my RB320 not so long ago. I know they'll be slightly different to your callipers, but should give you an idea!
This was my first attempt on ANY car, at changing the brakes & they were so easy to do!

I did do a full 'how to' guide over on the RB320 owners forum, but quickly;

Take the cap of the brake fluid reservoir..
Remove the 2 clips then carefully knock out the 2 retaining pins on the back of the callipers..

Once these are removed, the spring plate holding the pads in can be taken off..

The pads can then be removed, to enable you to pry back the pistons carefully..
Clean the calliper pins, and there should be a squeal plate on the back of the old pad, clean this as well..
Slightly copper slip this plate as it meets the face of the new pad and the calliper then refit..

Replace the spring plate & slide in the calliper pins and secure again with the clips..

Whilst pushing back the calliper pistons to fit the new thicker pads, keep an eye on the brake fluid reservoir, ensuring it doesn't overflow. (I did pads all round & mine didn't)

If i've forgot anything I apologise!
