Default £260 pads :(

OK, so my car is in at dealer (as it's still under warranty) trying to get this leak sorted out still. I also had a squeaky front right brake and a slow puncture on the rear left.

I know it was a bit cheeky to ask them to have a look at the puncture.

To be honest, if I would have bought it without a warranty, then I would have been doing all this myself. I had a look at the brake, and there is a tiny piece of metal touching the disc (not sure what it's called but I'm sure you all know what I mean).

Anyway, I just got a phone from the garage saying that they've sealed (again) around the lights, couldn't find and leak on the wheel, and the squeaking is because pads are low and I need new ones. £260!!!! Now I know there is a little bit extra there because its main dealer, but still, £260 for front pads, when I've not even done 2000 miles in it yet? Just doesn't sound right to me.

So I thought I would see what you guys thought, and what sort of price/options I have available. I did see on a thread something about 02/03 crossover cars having very varying pads setup.

Thanks guys

About £160 for carbotechs, that is DS2500 money

This is more like what subaru will fit...

Thanks for the comments guys. I just got a txt saying that it is ready to collect, although I hadn't rang them back with my decision yet!

It sounds like they are trying it on a bit, to me..

I will pick it up later, and get a couple of pics for you

If you haven't given the nod for them to do the brakes, don't pay. Unless you want the top pads, don't go spending £260. For boggo pads (not very good ones) you will be paying a tenth of that.

I haven't and I don't plan too pay if they have, that can put my old ones back on. I don't need top pads etc, car hardly does any miles, let alone hard driving.

As and when I can afford too, I'll start upgrading and driving hard.

But, if they are genuinely worn out, then cheap and nasty ones will do for me for now

exactly! Was just a little worried that it would invalidate the warranty if I did it myself, but I could probably buy another years warranty for £260

I can supply you a set of our kevlar pads for £58.50 delivered , brakes are not covered under warranty anyway so don't worry about that

OK, £260 was for the 'Genuine' Subaru pads, and then £180 for Ferrodo's.

Don't fancy either of those, as I know I can get MUCH better than Ferrodo's for that price.

Car is back, and I think they have just bent the metal tab thingy back a bit so it is not touching, not too sure until I have a look...

Thanks Ian, I will have a look on your site and bare you in mind as and when I come to changing them.

I don't see the point in putting standard ones on, as over time, I would like to do some bits to it and do some harder driving.

I'm thinking about a 'ring' trip in June, so if I did and I have enough money, I'll get some new and better pads for then

Go for the Kevlar pads from Ian. They are a road pad that will take abuse, resist fade, bite from cold, no noise and little dust and don't cost the earth.

An excellent compromise on a daily driver

you tried other pads?? as i had mintex1155 on my subaru 4pots braided pipes 5.1dot fluid and it stopped on its head .
fitted bremebos with kevlar fast road pads and nearly crashed doing 20mph as the fecking things were shocking.there only the next step up from standard pads.
fitted bluestuff ndx pads,no probs, now on PF pads and there great as well.

i just find the comment about they will take abuse and resist fade so funny!!!

oh and yes mines is a daily driver running 355bhp 416lb/ft

I didn't say they were race pads. They are a road pad that are much better than standard. They resist fade better than the standard pad and have much more feel. They work from cold with little or no noise and don't cost the earth. An improvement over standard for very little extra outlay. Sorry, don't see the problem

Tried mintex 1155 many moons ago. Squealed when cold and distinctly average performance considering the high cost and then they delaminated (fell of the back). And the dust!!!!

FYI my car has 4 pots and braided hoses too, and I fitted the vented rears too cos of fading. Used to fade all the time on standard pads. Only faded once on Ian's Kevlar pads, and I've had the wheels so hot the laquer peeled. Maybe you had a bad set, especially if you couldn't stop it at 20mph, which is what the standard set was good at. Did you tell Ian about this problem?

I will be contacting Ian in the next few days, as I will need to get front pads (maybe discs) replaced for MOT.

Well it turns out that pads/discs are not checked for MOT.

However, as my birthday has just passed, I've treated myself to some Godspeed bits, thanks to Ian.

Should be here Monday so I can begin shouting and swearing as I try to fit them

Can't wait though lol

Thanks to Ian, I received my new pads and discs last week. Turns out, I need my calipers refurb'd now as they are sticking, and I don't want to warp my new discs.

However, my drivers side one looks 10x worse than passengers. It looks like it has sat in sea water for 12 months, although I can't seem to get a proper pic.

I've attempted to attach some pics. Ian, can you let me know if these can be used for your refurb & exchange service, as I am trying to weigh up the options at the minute.

I think I should really get to grips with this pic uploading business too

Ok cool, I'll just need to grow a pair and brave getting the lines off. You reckon it's a couple of days to turn them around?

I think I will probably go for some braided lines at the same time. The rears can wait for now lol.

And out of interest, any information on a chrome look?

We can send you pair out to swap and just send yours back , that way you don't have to wait , you can do it all the same day
We have braided hoses in stock so can send you them at the same time

That's a good point Ian, save the car sitting on axle stands

I'm guessing you don't have a finish like the below link in stock? lol could you do such a finish?

Don't know if that will work better.....

You will have to excuse my stupidity, but can you get a painted chrome look rather than an actual chrome plated finish?
