Default Goodyear F1's - Inner Sidewall Failure

Anyone else had this with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric's? 3 out of 4 of my tyres have got cracks all around the inner sidewall (see pics below) but there is no sign of wear or fatigue on the outer sidewalls. The tyres have been on the car since September 2009 and have covered 10K miles but because i drive like a girl there is still 5 or 6mm of thread left. The fact that the outer wall looks 100% fine is a little worrying as if I were not the sort of sado that removes my wheels to clean and rotate regularly this would easily go unnoticed.

If anyone else is running these tyres I would recommend you check the inner sidewalls even if the outers look perfectly fine.

This premature failure has put me off Goodyear a little which is a shame I really liked the GSD3s and up until now the Asymmetric’s...how do Conti Contact Sport’s or Michelin Pilot Sport compare to the Goodyears??

Cheers

Chris

If they were fitted in 2009 they may have been part of the recall, there was a bad batch that I got exchanged a few years ago,

worth a check.

strange timing, just got the bad news at my mot this afternoon that 1 of my gsd3 has a lump on the inner face so failed mot, it has been notified for the last 3 years that the inner shoulder had worn, but this year it got me. the centre has located a new one as the other 3 are fine with lots of life left in them.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the comments, I’ve replaced all four with Conti ContactSport5. I contacted Goodyear early last week and they responded very quickly. All four tyres have been returned to them for inspection...I’ll keep everyone informed of the outcome.

Cheers

Mine did this last year, had to replace all 4, seemed a shame to chuck tyres away with decent tread left, wont go for the same brand tyre again.

take it you didn't pursue any warranty claim then???

Seems that the more i read into this, the more common it seems to be

Hi Guys,

Just to complete this thread....i got a letter today...Goodyear are going to refund me 52.5% of the orignal purchase price for the tyres, so i know need to speak to my tyre fitters to get cash but all in all a good result and one i'm pleased with as i honestly thought that i wasn't going to get anything...

Now my faith has been restored in Goodyear i think i'm going to get another full set soon as i'm not liking the Conti's
