'06 WRX Back Plate
I have what seems to be the common problem of grinding from the rear brakes on my ’06 WRX, caused by the back plate rubbing. I had it reshaped by my local dealer, and they said if the noise returned the back plate would have to be replaced. It did return and I took the disc off and rubbed it down as best I could, which worked for a while, but the noise has now returned with a vengeance.
I have access to facilities (and help if I get into trouble) to have a go myself, but I can’t find any aftermarket back plates. Is it just a case of getting them from Subaru direct or are there any alternatives. The discs came from Aztec and they are still ok. However, I will replace the pads.
Cheers.

Never heard of this problem! Very odd. I would have thought you would only be able to get them from Subaru main Stealers. Wouldn’t be an aftermarket part, but shouldn’t be expensive.
Rear brakes easy to service. Do need to take the calliper off the disc but simple job. Don’t need piston winding tool for these callipers, just pushes back in easy enough.
Good luck!

Lol. Everyone gotta start somewhere!
I learned by attempting jobs myself from the start, was basically too tight to pay anyone to do something I thought I might be able to do! Eventually you realise most jobs are quite easy and everything can be done if worked methodically! Good luck!

if you have changes the rear discs recently , the back plate could have been bent slightly causing it to rub on the disc , there is a lip on the backplate that locates in a groove on the discs , this lip could just be rusted causing it to rub , or you could have play in the wheelbearing causing it to rub
One of these will be the reason
If you remove the disc you will see where its rubbing as you will see it has taken the paint or rust off
Cheers Ian
