Question

My brother has a little dillema, he can not get his locking wheel nuts off.

They are rounded, he has taken it to several tyre outlets and to no avail.

Anybody able to suggest a way of removing them.

Thanks

I'd give it a go with; a big set of mole grips, a big shifter on the moles and a big lever arm on the shifter (like half a scaffold pole).

There's always a way !

Good luck

Depends on what style they are.

If they are the sort that look like the fortifications on a castle, you can get a standard socket (get a cheap one!), a breaker bar and a lump hammer. Hammer the socket onto the locking nut (you need to get a socket the right size - i.e. slightly too small), and force the nut off using the breaker bar.

The nuts wont be any use afterwards, but I guess you wont want to use them again if you haven't got the key.

you can buy a fkin huge bolt extractor kit matt. You basically drill a hole into the center then screw a tapered left hand thread bolt into it till it locks up then just undo it.

a cheeper option would be to get some bolts welded to the head of the nut and unscrew using those.

smaking a socket on can work but it depends how round the locker is.

final idea is grind a groove into the head and get a chisel and kock the nut round to get it started.

Gator Grips. Often used by thieving scum to remove locking nuts.

Blimey thanks for all the responses

We tried using a smaller socket, banging it on etc, to no avail unfortunatly, the nuts are well rounded off.

My brother works in a workshop, so i guess he should be able to try Johns method.

Weld a bar direct onto it! Cover the wheels with something non-flammable to protect them.

Let us know how you get on!

Thanks for everyones help.

Got them off today, using a chisel and drill, knackered the wheel studs but 1 hour later all fine and dandy. The wheels are slightly damaged, im sure they needed a refurb anyway

My brother has had a pants week, 4th Gear sycromesh went mid last week, then this.

At least the cars now ready for the Ring

BRING IT ON !!!!
