Default Rear brakes problem - not working

Hello I have noticed something really weird with my bug eye wrx rear brakes, I don't think the back ones are working? Both discs at the rear have rust deposits in the middle of the disc as in the shiny face and after a drive I get out the car and touch the discs and they are stone cold where as the front ones are warm/ hot, I hope someone can help me as I'm now worried about this.

Hi flash

I can't help, but I have exact same problem and posted a similar question a few threads back - but no answer yet

At the moment I reckon it's the callipers - although I'm not totally convinced that both of them have seized at the same time. I plan on buying new discs and pads (discs are rusty and the pads are pretty low, but not at limit) and while I'm changing those either see if I can unseize it or possibly see if I can buy some cheap replacement callipers. You can buy seal kits, but I don't know if they are usually enough or not.

I'll be interested to see if anyone can suggest it could be anything else - I've had a look for other info, but found anything about the break compensator quite confusing!

Mines a '99 Turbo2000 - so should be pretty similar to your bugeye

Are you both saying that the rear discs aren't polished at all? Or that there is a polished area, but with rust marks in it/unpolished?

If it's the first, then your rear calipers aren't working at all, and need an overhaul. Speak to ian godney on here, he runs Godspeed, what he doesn't know about brakes ain't worth knowing.

If it's the second, could be your pads are knackered. Try removing them for a look.

BUT: took mine out for a spirited drive yesterday, my front discs were warm, the rears stone cold, AND I have Brembos on the rear and the brake bias mod done, so MORE force on the rears than normal.

Whilst trying not to hijack the tread...

Mine rear discs are rusty all over and I can turn the wheels by hand unless the brake pedal is pressed hard to the floor!

I'm slightly suspicious that both callipers seized at the same time? But I am leaning to that being the problem.

What is the brake bias mod?

sounds more likely the rear pads are jammed in the calipers or sliders seized (if single pot), the only other thing would be air in the rear system stopping them working.......

Brake bias mod removes the brake bias valve, making the rears do more work.

My car feels more planted under heavy braking, with less tendency to nose dive.
