Default Brake Options?

I have a MY97 UK Turbo Wagon.

It currently has Subaru 4 pot brakes on the front. But in all honesty they are pretty crap!

I want to upgrade but not sure what options I have.

I see a lot of Brembo brakes for sale on here which are from newer Subarus. Are these possible to fit to a classic? If so whats involved?

The car has a set of P1 alloys on it.

I will be selling the Subaru 4 pots I currently have and have around £600 to spend on the newer brakes. So, I would spend approx £700 to £800 to purchase the brakes.

Thanks

So the new age Brembo's will fit straight on the existing hubs without modification?

Spacers should sort the clearance issues??

Thanks.

If you could find a bit more cash, 2nd hand AP four pots may fit without spacers.

Or you could try K-Sports instead.

Yes and Yes. bu if you keep an eye out for the non gold Brembo's, they usually go under a lot more wheels.

I have newage Brembo's allround on my MY00, but wish I didn't, because I could never chuck a cheap set of wheels on it if I like. There aren't loads that fit, and there are even less that are cheap.
So if you want brembo's, look for the red ones, usually called Gran Turismo's.

You pay through the nose for the Brembos that are fitted to the STi cars. K Sports are a good shout. Whatever road you go down I think you'll have to swap your wheels to get the clearance.

Pads and Discs on your standard set-up would be worth a look at if you don't want to go the whole hog.

I've got 8 pot K-sports with 330mm discs on my '99 classic, with 17" P1 alloys. They fit, but were pretty tight!

I've found them pretty good value for money, although the standard K-sport pads were rubbish, so I upgraded to some Bluestuff NBX after a couple of thousand miles.

Now I've got the Bluestuff pads in, they are a massive improvement over the standard 4 pots.
