Question

I recently had a set of aftermarket front discs (294mm) fitted along with some mintex pads. They've done about 1000m but I've noticed 2 things. First off is a slight front end vibration over 90mph (private roads etc etc ) and secondly when continuous braking down from motorway speeds (eg up a slip road or coming up to a roundabout) there's a groaning noise from the brakes that gets louder as they get hotter.

I'm taking them in to the manufacturers place to get them looked at but does anyone have any idea what might be causing these things? It has been said that becuase they are "small" discs they are working harder so make the noise, however my standard OEM discs never made any noise at all under heavy braking.

Question

Are the aftermarket discs grooved or cross drilled?, I read on Scoobynet that grooved discs can make this sort of noise.

Simon,
they're made by a chap in wales right????? mine groan like bu**ery, but thats normal if they're grooved, it's actually the grooves doing what they're designed to, ie, cleaning the pad up as they stop you, sounds nasty though dunnit!
Dunno about the vibration, hopefully not warped, could be a silly little bit of muck on the hub face behind the disc. Might be wirth taking trhem off and cleaning the whole lot up.
Ron.

Cheers Ron - you're right btw! How ever did you guess??

GLad to hear that others do it - I shan't be so worried about it. The vibration seems to be disappearing too - I think a "diagnostic" drive/blast tomorrow may be in order
