Smoking calipers after a few laps recently. Not good! Wish i'd paid attention to brake threads previously! Need to avoid smoking and fading! £1500 Brembo's out of the question. 4 Q's :

Should I put 17" wheels on first so I can get bigger disks on under the 16" wheels?

What is the weak point of the 4 pot STi V brakes? Why is something else pretty similar miles better?

Whats the best cost/value kits out there? Godspeed disks & calipers seem popular?

Will my insurance go up?

Appreciate any advice!

Will my insurance go up? Maybe not, but you should tell them.

Cheers Ron & glad you understood the terribly worded first question!!!

So best go for 335mm disks under 17" wheels. Does this use my stock 4 pot calipers, or are new presumably bigger calipers part of the Godspeed kit?

Finally we need only bother with the fronts then, and I'm looking at about £500 for this?

Appreciate the advice! Thanks

335mm kit uses, original caliper, but with a spacer added to allow space for the thicker disc, fronts are the best place to start, most don't bother with the rear, I haven't.

I have an STi 5 too and am looking to upgrade the brakes as well. Should I change current discs/ pads/ add hoses or go for the Godspeed kit - and if so, which one? The car isn't going to be tracked but the current setup with the standard 4 pots is crappy....

How much is the Godspeed 335mm kit which uses the standard calipers, and the smaller one which uses the 308mm disc and Godspeed calipers???

Kingsize

I conclude 17" wheels, hoses, 335 Godspeeds and stock 4 pots would be best deal - keeping the calipers goes towards the new wheel costs.

Try the godspeed website for the costs.

Thanks Diesel...

I have 18"s so 335 would fit no problem, but that makes my original 16"s redundant

Question is will I need to use them again? Future track days says yes, but maybe sell the wheels as well and they can help provide new rubber when/ if I take the car on track???

Decisions, decisions!!!
