Question Which pads for hearty road use?

Hello all,
i have a '52 plate wrx sti type uk300 bugeye and the brake pads are on the way out
As far as i'm aware the car is all standard with the big gold brembo calipers on the front and little ones on the rear.
I have never thought the brakes were that brilliant (owned the car since 2004) but services and mot's always said they were in very good order and never been replaced by me.
What pads would you reccomend (front and rear) for hearty road legal use that fit the original calipers etc?
Been looking on a few sites and seems a bit tricky to get brembo pads for the rear? Maybe i not been looking right

ps not looking to spend a fortune, does about £250 seem ok for a decent setup and local garage to fit for around £150?

Thank you for any help...

the pad that seems to be flavour of the month is the EBC blue they've been getting rave reviews on the forum, I've not tried them myself but I think I may take the plunge when my current Ferodos need replacing. Previously (like a lot of people) I felt the EBC range was poor compared to others available but it seems they're really on the money this time. BTW I wouldn't expect to pay anything like £150 for fitting pads, it's a very simple job well within the scope of a DIY mechanic and a nice easy job for your local garage who I'm sure would be delighted to undertake it, if I were spending £150 I'd insist they replaced the fluid with a high quaility DOT 4 like Motul RBF600, come to think of it includeing a fluid change would probably be a good idea anyway as it's likely your still on the same fluid the car left the factory with.

Well I hope they have changed the compound on Blue as they used to be for endurance racing.

I had some fitted to my old Legacy TT and the brakes did not work when cold.

Hi
The only UK300 I have seen was the WRX that had the Subaru calipers fitted not the Gold Brembo's , so just double check before ordering and getting the wrong ones.

The new bluestuff NDX are totally different to the old blue compounds , the new NDX pads are very good for all round fast road , track use , even very well from cold.

Check out our site for various pads depending wether you have the subaru or brembo embossed calipers

still find the PF z-rated pad the 'best' all round IMO in terms of value for money / performance for the BREMBO range (and rears are no problem in various manufacturers)

as Ian states above the UK300 is based on a WRX and does NOT have the Gold brembo calipers as std (Subaru embossed calipers F&R as std) unless your car has been retro-fitted with them or its not actually a 300 at all???

Thumbs up

Thanks everyone!
I've looked at the v5 and it says wrx-sti prodrive. I'm sure the dealer said it was a type 300 with prodrive styling ie the rear wing, but it has a wrx exhaust and only the small scoop on the bonnet?
Now i'm confused...

Big red pipes in the engine bay.
Calipers are definately the gold and red brembos though.

Gonna have a quick pog at the website Ian, thanx.

maybe it has a "300 style" wing as the early Sti's only had the low type fitted as std...........

if it has the red inlet and Gold Brembo's all round (and 6spd box) then yes its an STi

Another vote for the EBC Bluestuff NDX. We use it on our car in preference over any other car.

The correct ones for your car:

Front
Rear

Secure online ordering and next day delivery

Pads should be nowhere near £150 to fit.
