Question Standard One Pot Rear Caliper - Info needed

Hello. Quick question for the wise old Subaru Sages on this site.

Just got the old Scoob (1995) back on the road after a three month lay up and realized that the rear off-side caliper pot has seized up pretty much solid (not the hand brake). It also looks pretty sorry for itself so I've decided to replace it.

There are plenty of second hand units about on-line so what I need to confirm is whether they are all interchangeable or if I need a specific model/year for my car.

Can anyone confirm please?

Thanks in advance.

I believe they are all the same Rob, although someone would have to confirm it.

You can get solid disc or vented disc versions , and 2 pad types , the pads either have cut out or lugs on the ends of them , you can see by looking through your wheels which ones you have fitted , you should have solid discs and pads with cutouts
Cheers Ian

The Caliper itself (the part with the piston in it) is the same for all Impreza's & legacy's with the single pot rear fitted up to about 98my. After this date there was a design change in the way that the caliper is bolted to the carrier. Although the piston fitted is the same.

The carrier however, (the part that the pads sit in) is different depending on weather you have solid or vented discs fitted, it also changes depending on the pad shape used.

You would need to purchase the correct side caliper for a pre 98 car & then it is possible that you would then have to remove it from it's carrier and use the one you alredy have fitted to your car to ensure that it fits your discs and pads correctly.

Why not just strip and clean your existing calipers and fit a new seal kit?

Seal kits are usually around £30 so probably cheaper than a 2nd hand caliper anyway?

Because if the piston is totaly seized, then you will usually find that the pison has suffered and has started to loose its coating which would render it usless.... These are not available seperatley from Subaru.

You can pick up a second hand unit for half the price of a seal kit.
