Help - Sheared Bolt & Brembo Caliper
I have had a search and read through a few posts on sheared bolts and Brembos calipers however mine has sheared just under the head of the bolt and I have about 10mm of stud out of the caliper.
I have soaked it in WD40 ready for tackling in the morning and am hoping to get able to get some movement from the stud - am I wasting my time seeing as the bolt has sheared?
Few questions:
Can I use heat on it or will I end up damaging the caliper?
Should I just drill the stud out and retap/helicoil it instead - Does anyone know if Halfords sell helicoils?
Thanks in advance
Chris

If you got a fair bit of stud/bolt hanging out the caliper I would keep soaking it in WD40, and I mean soak lol! You might be able to get the end in a vise and unscrew it straight out, assuming I've understood what's happened
*Edit* To drill and heli coil I've always had to use a pillar drill as you'll never IMHO drill it out properly, or straight with your household Black & Decker.......

May be a dud bolt as happened to me. End of thread had a blob of metal on the end (part of the bolt, not just stuck on). Mine came out but ruined the thread so had to be helicoiled. As Pink Floyd suggests it would better to leave it to someone with the right gear, some local engineering specialist perhaps.

Not that uncommon, I'm afraid!
Happened to me when removing a rear caliper to change discs. If the bolt sheared due to the thread seizing in the caliper (as with mine) there's little likelyhood of the remains unscrewing! I had to drill the remains out of the caliper and fortunately, the final pieces broke away leaving the thread only slightly truncated. I cleaned the thread out with a 10mm tap and used a new bolt with a couple of turns of PTFE tape.
