Replaced discs and pads, still "whirring" under heavy breaking.
Hi,
I have standard non-sti WRX on a 55 plate.
Under heavy braking, e.g. coming off a motorway, as the brakes heat a whirring noise builds from the front wheels getting louder and louder until it sounds like the noise is from the whole front of the car, so I just stop braking and use the gears instead
I thought my discs might be warped but I've just had the pads and discs replaced and was pretty gutted to see it was still happening, can't think what else it could be??
Cheers...

hard to diagnose off the internet but what make pads/discs?? do you have grooved by any chance
could be caused by "glazing" or too poor a pad over-heating

if the noise is there when braking but goes when u release the pedal then i would suggest its not the brakes, as above a suspect wheel bearing would make this noise esp when there is extra strain on it from braking etc....

Thanks guys!
The new discs aren't groved, completely flat. Should be the standard WRX pad/discs (brembo?) - what the mechanic told me, and it was doing it before he changed them. No work has been done around that area apart from the yearly subaru services.
I don't think I've warped the new discs, I've barely just run them in (no racing) and it isn't really a juddering on the steering, just a bit of a racket!
Bearings is sounding most likely from your comments.
Thanks again all....

Another vote for bearings, or possibly a drive shaft.
Get the car raised on a two poster, check for play in the bearing/shaft and replace anything loose. If no play evident then fire up the engine and drive the wheels up to about 60 mph and listen for loose parts slapping about/whining. This can be dangerous but the owner of the two poster will be used to doing this. Found a worn bearing this way last year.
