Default Brake servo problem

I have always thought my brakes have felt crap since I bought the car. Always been a very hard pedal ie, felt as if there was no power assistance.

Replaced the pads, fitted braided lines, motul fluid, etc but still feels ****.

One of my mates suggested that the valve on the servo might be buggered.

The vacuum line that goes from the servo to the inlet manifold has a bulge in it - is this the valve? I pulled the line off and managed to blow through it and also suck through it, i was under the impression it should have been a one way valve? Do you think this is my problem and I am not getting any power assistance?

Also when idling, if i pump the brakes should my rpm fluctuate? When I do this on my car it doesnt budge again suggesting no power assistance?

Thoughts and ideas welcomed.

Cheers,
Hacky

Hi mate, the bulge in the pipe should be about 3-4 inches away from servo connection. This is the one way valve as you say and yes you should only be able to blow through it one way so this does sound like your fault. You should have -.7bar in the servo for it to work properly and if the valve is leaking then you probably only have around -.3 bar. replace the pipe and all should be good.

Cheers guys - got the part from Halleys in Milngavie - only £12! Result!

Bad news - didnt sort it! lol When I pulled off the old one it released a fair bit of pressure and when I could only blow through it one way - so much for my mate telling me he could blow through it and suck through it! lol

Anyway - what would be my next port of call here? Brakes still just dont feel nippy at all. Buy a whole new servo from a breakers?

Or would it be better to buy a brand new one?

Cheers
