Default Spacers

Looking into getting a set of 10mm spacers as new 17's arent going to fit over front Brembo calipers... as spacers are only required on teh front, do I only need front spacers or do I need to get a set for the rears aswell??

Not sure if just having the fronts spaced would affect handling etc?

Any help?

... and whats the difference between hubcentric spacers and just normal spacers? Except the massive price difference!

You will need longer wheel studs for 10mm IIRC

I think when i was playing with them, 7-8mm was the safe limit on the stock studs...

Hubcentric are a lot safer as the wheels load is properly shouldered onto the hub.

So are normal spacers (non hubcentric) actually unsafe?

They wobble and vibrate apparently. I need some too. Its probbaly unlikely you'll need them to clear the rears. There seems to be loads of clearance on my V7 STi rims on the rear.

I've only got standard WRX brakes on the rear so thats not an issue... but will I need spacers on the back anyway as if I dont the front wheels will stick out 10mm more than the rear, will that not affect handling?

Oh yeah, I see what you mean. Can't answer that myself, but it would make sense to add them to the rear too, which would cost more too.

Hmm, reckon i'll get some cheap ones and see how I go... not folking out £200 for hubcentric ones if not 100% needed

It's comproming safety for no other reason than cosmetics. I don't care how 'safe' they are, it's one more part to fail added for no good reason.

Race cars DO NOT ever run spacers.

The op isn't fitting them for cosmetics he needs them so his wheels will clear his brakes.

And don't forget the op isn't fitting them to a race car, just his road car. For the stresses that will be put on a road car spacers will be fine if fitted correctly.

To the op yes you should fit them to the rear as well to stop it effecting the handling adversely.

Cheers mate, whats your opinions on normal spacers to the likes of hubcentric spacers?

I'm looking at getting wheels that will have near enough the correct offset, so are hubcentric spacers really necessary? I understand they will give me better fitment, but at the end of the day as long as fitted correctly, the wheel isnt ever going to fall off

I've never used "normal" spacers over a few mm. This was mainly to stop the tyre fouling the strut on my old rs turbo when i fitted a slightly different offset wheel. tbh they were fine and I never had any problems. Not sure what the 10mm would be like. I've got some 25mm hubcentic to go on my classic to beef up the stance and give it a wider track to improve centre of gravity and track width.
