track day tyres blob eye wrx?
I'm going to a track day at the end of April and at the moment the car has brand new sessanta's on it (fitted 500 miles ago in November).
It'd be my first "proper" track day, apart from about 5 laps of castle combe, and I don't particularly want to wreck a set of new sessantas if I can avoid it.
I've got a spare set of WRX alloys, but does it make economical sense to buy track day tyres or not? I see that e.g. R888's seem to be about 600-or-so quid for a set - is it really worth it? Do they last longer than 2x sets of normal street tyres?
I'm not a track driving god, so I'm not after the last % of cornering speed, so should I just stick with my road tyres?

R888's are supposed to be the DB's, but I don't think they last long: just a few (hard) trackdays as I understand it.
I run Hankook RS2 Z212 track tyres. They're not "fashionable" and are not quite as good as the RE070's I ran before but for the money I can't fault them. I run out of ability before they run out of grip

Not much doing a track day using road tyres as they will overheat after a few laps because of the deep tread blocks then you loose control and interest as you will have to let them cool down ! Personaly i will only use track tyres on a track day but only you can decide ! 888s are the DB and last longer than you think !

was at marham at the weekend and the tarmac is pretty good
it depends on what you wanna spend
r888s big money
for your first outing try a set of good road tyres , maybe paradas ect , or chesk e bay for second hand slicks or something .

Hmm, I'm still undecided.. best price I can get for the R888's seems to be about 650 quid, where-as the hankooks are 400 including delivery from camskill...
Two more questions:
1. Can I run 225 wide tyres on a standard new age 17" WRX wheel (non sti)?
2. What load rating does a new age require?

I have a set of part worn slicks which would fit some 17" alloys if you're interested. I was looking to use them for a trackday myself but they've been sat with Mags for a while now..... and I need the money for a remap more urgently.
PM if it suits....

You will kill a set of 888 at marham in a day. Get some cheaper Tyres for hooning around the airfield on as it is really abrasive there.

Just spotted this thread. \i recently used Vreddy sessantas on Castlecombe for a track day. It was soaking wet and the tyres were great. No wear at all , but that was due to the wet conditions
