Tyres and MOT
Right... we have a tyre with a small (and i mean about 1cm) nick in the sidewall. It's not deep but it is of course there.
Is that an MOT fail does anyone know? I've looked at the MOt guide online and can't be sure!
FYI the car is the old Mini so tyre frying speeds are not really an issue/likely.

Tyre Cuts
A cut in excess of 25mm or 10% of the section width of the tyre , whichever is the greater, measured in any direction on the outside of the tyre and deep enough to reach the ply or cord would deem the tyre illegal.

yeah i read that... imagine an L shape and you have it... so does the 25mm relate to the overall length or one side or what?
Hence my need to ask the question.
It isn't deep enough to hit the ply by the look of it.

Why don't you just take it to a tyre place and ask their advice.
I had something similar (OK without the MOT bit)
It has a slit on the sidewall - it was quite a chunk I thought
Took it to a local tyre company and asked them to look at it.
They said its fine - no problem
Of course not all might be as honest......

Cheers dude. That more like was i was expecting. Bit of experience. Work 9 - 6 during the week and i'd rather not be wasting too much time at the weekend. Plus bought the wheels and tyres off ebay and said i won't give feedback unless i know they are legal (nick wasn't mentioned but tyres are otherwise as new).
