Why are some AP discs grooved and others drilled?
#1
Hi,
Just bought a set of AP 6pots and the discs I got were drilled, not grooved.
Yet I know a few people with APs and their discs are grooved, not drilled.
Anyone know why AP offer 2 alternatives?
Cheers
Rich

I was fortunate enough to visit the Brembo factorys in Italy last year.
During one of the tours, I asked a similar question.
I was told that for most applications, grooved discs are now the preferred option as the are less prone to cracking.
They then suggested that the reason drilled discs are still popular (including with car makers such as Porsche) is that they are more cosmetically appealing.
We didn't go into it in depth, so I'm sure there's a lot more to it than that!
This, incidently, was not the "official" answer from Brembo, just the response from the fatory engineer who took us on the tour.

Cheers for the replies folks.
Probably better for me then as I'm not a big track goer, so unlikely to build up huge temps. Prefer that initial bite to be better.

There's a long answer and a short answer. The short answer is that AP Racing would agree entirely with RichS (and Brembo).
