Question

One of my 17' Superleggeras is buckled and I have to buy a replacement plus 2 new tyres despite really only needing one but So2s are impossible to find etc etc. Anyway the garage maintains that only gouges/scuffs etc can be repaired but if a wheel is buckled, that's it! Well naffed off as I didn't even hit a pothole or anything serious. Anybody know any different?

Thanks

Jerome

I have been told that buckled wheels can be repaired but it costs around £60 + VAT. The wheel has to be sent to a specialist for some form of heat treatment to restore its shape and they have a 2 day turnaround for this service. The company I spoke to is Alloy Wheels Refurbished in Bury, Manchester but I presume there are other companies across the country who can do this.

Well I didn't slam into a pothole or anything obvious. I have been on rough roads eg Ireland but there never has been any marks on the tyres to show any impact. I certainly never kerbed it but it happened to the front nearside so whether or not extra load from heavy braking with the uprated discs had anything to do with it, I don't know. I have ordered a new one at £130 plus VAT and when that is fitted, I'll see about trying to get the old one repaired.

I have also got some vibration in the front so I will get it all balanced with the fitting next week and only hope that there isn't another one gone too!

They look the "mutts" but I'm fairly disappointed with the strength and it seems I may not be the only one.

Why did you buy a new Superleggera when you know the strength isn't up to the driving you do ?
If it was because 4 new wheels in very expensive I understand but it might not be the last Superleggere youo buckle and then at some point you would have saved on buying 4 new stronger wheels (Compomotive, Raceline, Speedline).

Just don't understand how OZ haven't caught the weakness before the started the manufacturing process...

I have 17" Gold Technomagnesia Alloys & found (when I tried to get the fronts rebalanced that the two fronts where buckled :0(
I found a company in Kent Called Lepsons who straightened both wheels perfectly & best of all it only cost me £25 PER WHEEL!!!. So well chuffed now & have a new set of S03's on all round & all balanced up perfectly!! (Happy Bunny Now!!)

Good Luck

Thanks for that info Gents. I got the new wheel and tyres fitted today so will start looking for a local wheel refurbisher first - Bristol or thereabouts. If that fails, I will have to courier it to Kent which aint cheap I suppose but £25 certainly sounds like a good deal!
