Default Hawkeye WRX Brakes

Morning,

I need new pads on front and new discs and pads on rear. Can anyone give me an idea of how much this is likely to cost me?

Is the standard equipment ok or is there a similar priced alternative that people recommend?

Is it a stupid idea to look at buying the equipment and fitting them myself? I've never done anything with brakes before.

Can anyone recommend a garage local to South Cheshire/Crewe/Stoke area?

Thanks,
Adrian

the fronts are easy to do for someone with basic skills, the rears are more tricky as the discs contain the handbrake shoes too, if you are changing the shoes as well, then it can be awkward to refit the discs, and also sometimes tricky to remove the discs if the shoes decide to grab on. the handbrake shoes should not have any wear, but may be corroded, and just need a clean, best to do this if you are changing the disc anyway (although i would replace them). standard discs are fine for unmodified cars, there are lots of pads highly rated by members, and lots that are useless too. pattern rear standard vented discs about £80, rear pads FROM £25, same for shoes, front pads FROM £30.

Judging by that I think i'll look into getting the front pads from somewhere and doing them myself. Not going to attempt rears though... sounds like it exceeds my abilities! Unfortunately best quote ive got for rear is from Subaru at £305.00... Hope I can beat that!
