Toyo R888
My tyres are due for changing soon and i am researching what to replace them with but need your help
Ive looked at tyrereview.com or co.uk and read good reviews about the R888
I want to know who on here is running R888's on there car that they drive daily and how do you rate them (im aware that you need to warm the tyres up etc) if possible can you write up your driving style and truthfully if they're worth buying.
What other tyres would you compare against the R888?
I understand these can be used in damp conditions however in standing water theres no chance of driving hard but can it still be driven ? (ms. daisy style)
thanks

I wouldn't recommend 888s for a daily drive.
They are splendid on track and can cope with a fair bit of wet BUT any standing water causes alarming aquaplaning, one thing on track but quite another on a public road, they are just not designed for this.
On road they are noisy due to stiff sidewalls, and wear quickly as the rubber is soft and is only 5mm new compared with the more usual 8mm for normal road tyres.

Check out the Camskill site for trackday tyres, or E.A.R.S. also plenty listed.
I bought a set of R888's last year and trolled around on them, noisy, soft, expensive and utterly astonishing grip in the dry.
They are o.k. in the wet, due to soft compound, but standing water is a no-no.
Silverstone tyres do a similar type of tyre in a harder compound.

I did 3000 miles last summer and they are still road legal, but as they don't like standing water they spent the winter in the garage.... RE-070's on std. STI alloys for the winter.

I use 888s on the road. I don't think they are that great in the dry compared to A048s TBH, although they are pretty good. Standing water is an issue but not that bad. They are also great in damp/wet conditions without standing water, you just need to drive a little smoother. I think they are better in the wet than say the Proxys or Paradas. There is a lot of personal choice in there though and they are pretty expensive too.
If you want to you can get the tread cut out on the closed part of the pattern to the outside and then they are really quite good in all conditions.
