Default What wheels/width for wtcc slicks for classic

Hi,

I've decided on getting some ex wtcc slicks for the track and was after some advice on what rims to put them on.

they are 240 610 r17.

Im told they fit anything from 7" to 9" wide rims.

Anyone fitted these to a classic without wider arch mods? Is it advisable to go for the more common 7" or shall i find a 7.5/8" rim. Im worred this will throw them into the arches

Any advice/experiance welcome.

Thanks

CHris

You will be better off looking for some ex clio cup slicks as they are not as wide and will fit better. I bought some MICHELIN S9B 20/62-17 off ebay last month for £80 delivered - should be trying them out at Cadwell next monday (weather permitting!)

240/610/17 are too wide for your classic without SERIOUS mods.

I got them from here:

eBay Seller: mailordermotorsport: Cars, Parts Vehicles, Home Garden items on eBay.co.uk

They have had a few sets of slicks on before - worth keeping an eye on or even email them to see if they have anymore?

Got my set fitted to my track wheels today - will let you know what they are like

Thanks.

Anyone know the difference in grip levels between the clio and wtcc slicks?

They have got to be better than my gsd3's which go off after a few corners :S

Most of the evo's seemt o be running 235/240 610 17. Need to keep them within the arches tho. Looks like it could probably takes 220. 240 may be pushing it tho.

How did you get on? Get the tyre pressures sorted out?

Brilliant grip under acceleration/braking and no tyre squeal on high speed cornering.

Only problem was they were running it in 20min sessions and my brakes gave up after about 19mins! Think it had just boiled the fluid - after a drive back to the pits on the handbrake using the escape road and 20mins of cooling down the brakes were ok again. I ran my re050's in the 2nd session and my brake pedal was very long after the 20mins.

So to summarise - slicks are excellent, but you need good brakes!

Im running standard 4pots front/2pots rear, carbotech XP8 pads all round with godspeed grooved front discs (all only fitted 2 weeks ago) and standard rear discs.

Didn't change fluid at the time but been out today to get some dot 5.1 as not sure when it was last changed and not sure what subaru dealer uses - need to find service book! Also waiting for numbers to get up on hel braided hose group buy. Hoping these mods will give me better braking at high temperatures + longer track time?

If I find anymore of these slicks then Il get in touch!

Pretty much same as me then. im running ds2500 which are pretty similar to the XP 8's im told.

Best brake mod i did was motul RBF600 fluid, Sod normal 5.1 get this stuff. it rocks.

Had my brakes smoking with no real fade. When i had 5.1 it cooked after a cool down lap when sat in the pits. RBF all The way!

Ill keep hassling ur ebay man see if he gets some in. How did they wear? Get a few track days out of them?

Just got some dot 5.1 from halfords for now (got a trade card so its only £5 per litre) as need to get it in before next trackday at bedford in 3 weeks (not got many days off between now/then)

They don't seem to have worn too bad atall, only thing is there is a load of gravel stuck in them after my trip up the escape road (will soon come out next time they are run)

Hens teeth are fetching around £200 right now so do you want some slicks for the same price!?!

Ahh bedford rocks. GT track? was there a few weeks back as passenger in my bros evo, no undulation like brands and donny tho.

Ive got some wedge to shell out before my next day the handling is too bad standard and road tyres in the dry are really bad! Also think i need to replace the rack or have a bad bush somewhere. Got a few bits on order, slicks of some sort will be bought before the next event.

This racing cars malarky is expensive stuff!

5 quid for a litre is not bad. my rbf cost me 12 quid per 500ml... :S

Yeah gravel is a git. Ended in the Gravel at donny last week, again in bros evo. We hit the wall and wrote it off and decided to break it. Its 90% stripped and still finding gravel in random places!

What spec car you running? got any pics? get along to any SN / MLR events?

The halfords 5.1 is ok as I used it in my old golf. May get better stuff put in next year as it is due all the fluids at the service.

Didn't actually end up in a gravel trap luckily, just the escape road was a bit rough and the tyres very warm and sticky.

Car is a 2004wrx, which I have owned from new. Only started using it for trackdays late last year and found a whole new side to a car Id been driving for 4.5years! Built up my confidence in various 'cheap' trackday cars, the latest of which is a stripped/caged mk2 golf 16v (currently up for sale as now using impreza and mrs says I have too many toys!). The great thing about running cheap cars like this was you could always give 110% on track as if you wrote it off you could still break it for spares and get most, if not all of your money back as parts on ebay.

My impreza is pretty standard - upgraded brake pads/disks as listed above, subaru wr sport backbox, de-resonated centre section, prodrive mudflaps, and 10w60 oil, thats about it really.

Don't really get to many events now as have kids so can't spend all my time with the cars! Maybe catch you at a trackday sometime - got any booked this year?

Nah already done 3 this year. need a couple of months break for the bank account to recover. Was planning on doing one mid may and nurburgring in july. Will see how it goes tho.

yeah the 110% is good. over taken so many cars which should be ALOT faster than me. Always satisfying

Breaking his evo4 should provide enough wedge for an evo 5/6 which is good. only thing left in the car is the engine really, should have that out on the weekend tho.

Didnt get my as kicked too hard by the superleggera at donny, but i did get big time whooped by a couple of 600bhp evo5/6 's. It was like i wasnt even moving..Main lacking is handling :S

Hopefully see you at a track day. would be nice to see how other scoobs perform.
