Removing front brake backplates, any issues?
Quick rundown on a UK MY97 ..
Replaced the rear 266mm solid discs and calipers with vented versions as I found that the solids were getting hotter than the front 4 pots after the obligatory 4 pot and goodridge hose upgrade.
Found that the backplates were megga corroded so a quick tap at the spot welds with a hammer and chisel and they were consigned to the bin. Had a quick look round and could see nothing in the vicinity that would be affected by the heat so am happy here.
Was wondering if removing the front (now ill fitting and corroded) backplates would presnt any issues as the track rod end balljoint gaiter is millimeters away from the disc and is currently protected by the backplate.
Noticed that many shopping trolley cars run without backplates (ie. Fiesta) and have a baby heatshield to protect the bottom balljoint gaiters.
So the questions are;
Has anyone removed the front backplates?
Are there any detrimental effects?
Has anyone fitted balljoint heatsheilds from other cars and if so what fits what?
Awaiting answers with anticipation..

Left mine off 03STi when I fitted AP 6 pots 3 yr ago. No problems, suspect brake cooling improved doing this. No issues with gaiters and brakes get well hot on track.
