Subaru genuine pads or performance pads ?

I have just been in the same dilema, I was recommended CRN Products. I ended up using them I've brought a set of grooved discs with Mintex pads.
They seem fine so far and adaqute for what I use the car as a daily driver.

Standard or uprated pads? That's like asking if p*ssy is better than your hand. Lol
Ferodo(as mentioned above) and Pagid seem to be the top choices from what I've read on here since I've been a member. I stupidly went for EBC Redstuff Ceramic when I first bought my Subaru, and didn't really rate them at all.
Hope that helps.

Personally, I stuck with Subaru Pads .... to my mind they know best, they built the car after all.
I came to that conclusion mainly because there is not one universally recommended pad (except for the OEM Pad) ..... and I don't regret my choice - the pads came with all the clips, springs, shims and grease .. more importantly, they fitted perfectly, didn't rattle, didn't stick and stop the car as fast as I need.

They don't make the brakes.
They charge too much.
Different people have different requirements.
IMO Subarus are "built to a price" and upgrading the brakes is no bad idea.
One of the benifits of this site is that you can post on here for this type of information
Mind you, in my day, when we used to drive chariots with wooden wheels and a heavy rearward bias.....

My old mild mapped UK car I bought standard discs from SAP motor parts for £90 a pair and I bought ZX300 pads from the local motor factors for £30.
I managed not to end up in hedge so they were fine for me.
Not sure if I'd do the same with the RA, it seems to be in 3 figures far too quickly.

Brakes are one of the things its worth not skimping on. Without 'knowing' the pad manufacturer I'd be wary. Have a look at Camskill s website - they've always seemed reasonable and supply good stuff.
Depends on your use too. Got Mintex 1144s on mine which are great for road driving, but probably be a bit under specced for any sustained track work.

There's nothing wrong with the oe pads other than price. Any "upgrade" normally comes at a price whether that be shorter pad life, shorter disc life, more dust, poor cold performance, squealing or just the price itself.
There are plenty of pads available for around £30. I bought some OMP ones myself but have yet to fit them. If I have any concerns it will be straight back to the oe pads for me. Unless you are doing track days I can't see the need for anything "better".

Subaru Pads are expensive, but you know exactly what you are getting - mine last 65,000 miles on the front .... that's pretty good going.

Give Alyn a call at AS Performance 0191 410 3770. I spoke to him earlier this week as my 2003 WRX will need some new pads within next couple of months. Currently using the Pagid 421 but will probably go for the DS2500's @ £135. He did offer Mintex 1155 for about £100, ring him and ask what he recommends. He won't sell you stuff you don't need or talk you into spending more.

I like the quotation marks around the UPGRADE word ..... it is used far too freely these days. What it should say is 'Non Standard' .. it is rarely an upgrade in actual fact.

Now that's got to be trolling

I've just replaced the rears on my MY00 at 60k with more oe pads. The fronts have done over 25k and are still going strong.
Many years ago I replaced the oe pads on my old MY98 with Mintex 1155s supplied by Subaru. They squealed a lot, covered the wheels in dust and made a barely appreciable difference to braking performance.
