Question

excuse my ignorance but what's the second one for?

i assumed there must be a front / rear split, but after bleeding all 4 and only one reservoir showing any sign of losing fluid this appears not to be the case.

what's going on there then?

There is only one brake fluid reservoir, the other clear fluid reservoir has brake fluid in it but is for operating the hydraulic clutch
