Default Newage STI wheels on a classic

I need a set of 17" wheels for my trip to the ring this year, they have to go over my Brembo's on my classic. I'm looking at going to the STI rims. I know they will fit, but I've heard the tyres, 225 45 17 will rub. Is this the case?

thanks

The wheels will fit but the 225 tyres wont - the tyres are too wide to fit on a classic and will foul the arch and/or the suspension. You will need to change the tyres to preferably 215/40/17.
Also you will need the 2002-2004 STI wheels (100PCD) as below, and not the later 2005 onwards (with 114.5PCD).

Thanks for the reply, just the info I was after!

Just out of interest, is there any way of getting the later STi wheels for fit? I suspect it is a total ball ache changing all the hubs

IIRC, all WRX wheels from '01 to present fit, certainly up to '04/5 do, and are available in silver, bronze or gunmetal.

I have the gunmetal ones on my red classic.

I didn't think the WRX wheels went over Newage Brembo's

Mine has Godspeed Brembos on the front, and newage STi Brembos on the rear, both fit perfectly.
Can't say if newage fronts fit, but are they bigger than the Godspeed ones?

Yep, the newage front Brembos are bigger than the Godspeed brakes. I was considering converting to those or maybe the AP equivalent as I know they fit under 17's

Just to confirm – the WRX wheels wont fit with the STI OE Gold Brembo’s – you definitely need the STI wheels, for the offset and the profile of the spokes to allow the clearance for the Brembo’s.

Some have used a 5 mm (?) spacer.

Think I read too but didn’t they then end up fouling the arch?
