REAR PADS
#4
Before you get the big rusty file out I'd sit down and try and work out whats wrong. Are the pads reputable and therefore of a std size? Are the calipers original? Are the discs OE spec? Have you pushed the pistons ALL the way in or is there muck etc on the top of them?
I've found out the hard way there is usually a good reason for everything.

Make sure piston is fully in. Then try the pads and guides together and if that doesn't work something isn't quite right. Long time since I have done the rears but IIRC a bit of persistence may be required. I think the guides/shims are there to help reduce noise.

ps it mighn't do any harm not to have them in I'd just be worried something else isn't right
