Default rear brakes

on my99, a mate told me i might need a tool to wind the calipers back to replace the pads, is he right?

No , the rear pistons just push in , you only need to wind the pistons in on calipers with a handbrake system on them , but the subaru has its handbrake as a drum with shoes in the centre of the disc.

So do the shoes apply to the rear disks or to a separate drum like my landy?

I ask. As if its separate i.e. unloaded drum/pads then i can use the handbrake after the track??

The handbrake shoes apply to a drum which is cast integrally with the disc. Look at your rear brake discs: you'll see the large centre, which is the drum

ah, good good, same set up as my old escort then. looks like ill need new shoes aswell.
