Default Which Tyre for me spec C

Gents,

Just bought myself a 2006 Spec C which has the standard 17" wheels on it.
Gonna be getting the S204 rims (originals) which are 18"s to put on it, question is which tyre do i fit???

Think that i need to put 235/40/18 size wise (is that right??)
But not sure which to go for?
Heard good things about the goodyear f1s and the pirellis, are the bridgestones any good? as dont seem to be able to find th re070 in the that size? are the re050 any good.

Any help would be appreicated guys and promise to get some pics up of it in the gallery once the new wheels are on.

Good choice of car and rims

Yep, 235/40/18 is the correct tyre size.

I run R888's on my car which have been fine, but the car is only a weekend toy.

You can only get the RE070's in 225/45/17 in the uk, Litchfield use to be able to get the 235/45/17 but not sure about the 18 inch ones (though they are available in japan).
Unfortunately i never used any other tyre apart from RE070's on my spec c but they are probably the best you can get for this car though i think bridgestone do another semi slick tyre....

Thanks for the replies guys.

Also been reading on here that the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta are getting a thumbs up plus the fact that there quite a bit cheaper

Bit gutted that i cant get the re070 in the size i need really as do like them and doubt the re050 are as good.

I have RE050's on my car at the moment there not brilliant but not that bad either, I got them as an all rounder wet and dry weather.

Another all rounder to consider would be Toyo T1-r's have heard that they are not to bad, if you looking to go Semi Slick(Summer Only) R888's are most people choice however I did have a set of Yokohama Advan AO48's, they were one of the best tyre's I've ever had.

A Memeber of my local Clubs also suggested the Vredestein's he also drive's a Spec C which something I will look into soon, however I am seriously thinking of getting another set of 18's and have Semi Slick's on one set and a Wet Weather tyre on the other

BTW: Where about's in London are you, I'm in West London we have whats looking to be a big meet on at the 23rd at the ACE CAFE if your free.

RE070s unless you are a wuss

I got mine (slightly) 2nd hand from a chap on here. Have a look in For Sale Forum. Brand new 235 RE070s will make you weep due to the cost

Dhillon, im not far from there and used to go to aces cafe quite often when i had my type r but that was many moons ago.
If i get time i'll try and make it down to show it off. Hopefully i'll have the new alloys on it by then too.

TX cant use the re070 as i'll be upgrading to 18"s and as far as i know you cant get them in that size.

original alloys will be up for sale soon, tyres are worn but could be used for trackdays? Plus the dealer had them refurbed and resprayed in black.
but i'll put them in the for sale once its on new boot.

By the way this was the car i bought.

The one thing that put me off this car was the simtek ecu, no doubt the first owner didnt have a clue what the spec c ecu could do get it replaced and flog it, the spec c ecu is better than that one (it has anti lag capabilities and i think launch control too )

Nice car otherwise

Dhillon will do my best mate, it will end up being a spec c mini meet lol!!!

Rickya / Tony, cheers for the comments.

To be honest i dont mind the Simtek, at least i know it was done proper though by steve himself. Haven't used either the anti-lag or the launch control, doubt i ever will but sounds good when i say it has it

Already been serviced with Motul but will leave the pads till the die abit, seem ok for now.

to say it feels good to back in scooby is an understatement!!!
How i managed 6 years in the clio i dont know

Will get the pics up of it with the new boots on once done, hopefully this weekend.

I took my Bridgestones off after 3 months. Look good and great on a dry day, absolutely crap in the wet! After narrowly avoiding several 'offs' with them I switched to Toyo Proxes T1Rs. Good wear levels, good in the wet and they let go more gradually. Its wet much of the time in UK so why run a dry track type tyre? Might try Sessantas next due to the glowing reports for all weather performance & price.

Not sure why you'd need anti-lag on a mapped twin scroll engine, there's no lag at all!!

If you want the best, then go for the Michelin, very expensive but will beat pretty much any other tyre out there in that size

Simtek also supports anti lag and launch control as well as 2 full maps for different fuels.

I'd be interested to know what your views are on the Sessanta's once they are broken in. I am just about due a change and may switch from Toyo T1Rs. There is not that much of a difference in price between them. Cheers

Im agreeing with TX here, you wuss
Never had any issues in the wet (well except a fast standing start) where the RE070's gave me any issues, they suffer badly on slightly greasy surfaces but in the wet they give far better grip than you think and i even enjoyed leaving a hot hatch over wet country roads in winter on RE070's

Hiya tony, a mate of mine has a spec c hawkeye & didn't know his ecu had these capabilities either. Where did you read this so I can let him know? Strangely enough his car has been mapped by Pat Herborn & Bob Rawle and neither of them ever mentioned that.

Trust me, T1-R's are average at best when compared to Goodyear F1 Asymmetric..! Having gone from T1-R's to GYF1A's (both in 225/40 18's) there is no comparison. IMHO the Toyo's don't suit newage scoobs, maybe classics's are a different story..?

IMHO they are the best ALL round tyre on the market (although Sessanta's should also be good). FWIW, I paid the same for these as I did for the toyo's 2 yrs earlier..!

Mike Wood (Prodrive) told me not long ago, that of all the tyres (not yet tested GYF1A's) they've tested on newage scoobs, they found that deeply directional tyres weren't well suited. They made the cars 'squirmy/squidgy', something related to the extra weight of the newage car iirc..

Finally, newage cars need a minimum load rating of 92 (eg 225/40 18 92Y)..

As above, I've had a few different sets and the F1 Asym are awesome. Not tried the Sessanta yet but don't see the need as the F1 have huge dry grip, and the best tyre I've had for the wet and have great lateral grip for the twisties

You could be right Tony That said I seem to have some difficulty persuading friends & family to sit in the car as passengers. One described the experience as "the white knuckle ride from hell". Absolutely nothing to do with the tyre choice of course!

Utter ***** imo!

T1-R's are good tyres and I have been running these as road tyres since 2005!

They are good enough to handle over 500ftlb torque on a hard track orientated car, being used on the road. They also enabled me to get 9th at this years ScoobyLive Handling, which was the quickest time for a car on normal road tyres.

They may not be the best, but they are bloody good imo.
