Default How to spruce up my brakes ?

I have an 04 WRX and I'm ready to fit my new 18" wheels. The front calipers ( standard four pots ) look a bit grubby and I'm thinking about painting them. I don't suppose anyone has any photos of their painted calipers. Any recommendations on what to use ? A specific high temperation kit, or something that I can get from B&Q.

Any comments or suggestions welcome !

Cheers,

Wilky.

I did my last 3 cars calipers with floor paint in black. Its like Hammerite smooth. No heat issues. As far as the lettering, a sponge with white very gently dabbed on. Bob

Painted mine in Hammerite smooth black and wifes red. No probs with temps, even when I painted the disc bells bleck.

Sponge roller with white Hammerite rolled over the raised lettering finish them off nicely.

Post pics later.

As posted above, Hammerite Smooth is the stuff to use, it's fast drying, stands temperatures, is easy to apply, needing little prep other than a quick clean-up with a wire brush, and comes in loads of colours, even metallics

It's also cheap and available from DIY outlets, car places etc etc.

DO buy some proper thinners for it though, as normal thinners won't touch it, and your brush will go hard in the time it takes for one wheel to dry and the next to be removed

Calipers can be painted with discs in place, just slip a sheet of paper between when doing the edges. A smear of paint is easily removed if you do touch the disc

bit of a cheat for me though as i have an early wrx which has 2 pots and swapped them over for 4 pots so i could clean them up and paint them off the car.
I used caliper paint from Halfords and the writing was put on using a Holts touch up pen

If your takling the calipers off, and you have the time, it might be worth replacing all your seals. Simple job and not too expensive either. Think a replacement brake caliper seal kit for mine was £25.00 and theres a guide on here somewhere about how to do it, easy if your competant with the spanners.

How much do you have left on your pads, i think your wmore worth while waiting until your brakes need replacing and do a complete overhaul.

I did all mine about 3 months ago:

Grooved Discs and fast road pads £249.00
Braided hoses £20
Dot 5.1 fluid £10
Replacement seal kit £25
Hammerite Smooth Red £6
1 saturday morning £free

Made a hell of a difference, im runnimg just over 400BHp and these brakes are now excellent and well capable of handling this power on the road.

Havent been on the track yet, that could be a different story.

Good luck
