the brakes on this WRX are crap!!!!!!
Hi all,
I am feeling just how crap the brakes are on my old WRX MY93 now I have increased the power a little and they just don't stop the car very well at all now.
I have been looking on the net and the options are far too expensive at the moment, but what about the cheaper options for the time being... i.e. new discs that work with the original calipers etc
there seems like there are loads of different options however i have no idea if they just fit, what do i need to look out for on my old thing? what all this about pot 4 not compatible is that my wrx?
I have the very early WRX 1993 jap version. the bhp must now be around 260 (new ECU off a my96, then had it mapped, full exhaust system, new turbo, updated intercooler) feels so much faster, but stopping is a pain and pads are not lasting any more!

yeah the brakes are shocking arn't they!? I got a set of the Subaru 4pots mentioned above for £175 from Ebay. the pads were shagged (he said they were good haha very funny) and i want to get new discs while i'm at it. Not installed them yet but not difficult to find on ebay or on here.
i would forget about changing discs/pads only, you really need to bin the 2pots, and you certainly should not be spending £600 on 2nd hand subaru 4pots!
regards Ash

Your prob in the same boat as myself, my MY93 WRX has no ABS system (assume yours is the same) hence hard braking in the wet will always be an experiance. I removed all the calipers and made sure they where free, fitted new drilled and grooved discs and EBC red stuff pads, stops fine in the dry but still a bit hairy in the wet at speed. Cant see how 4 pots will improve the situation in the wet as they will lock up the same

You want these discs, they are very good quality.
SUBARU IMPREZA 4 POT CALIPER GROOVED BRAKE DISCS WRX on eBay, also Brake Components, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 03-Jan-09 17:12:06 GMT)
Then bung on your pad of choice, mintex xtreme work well for me, some swear by ferrodo ds2500.
Typical going rate for the calipers is the £200-£300 mark.
You can get rebuild kits for them quite easily should they need it.
And yes the 2 pots are shockingly bad.

when i brought my car it had ebc drilled & grooved discs with feredo ds2500 pads on 2 pots doesnt seem to bad, but for the money of a 4 pot upgrade its alot more worth while & will be going down this route myself in near future

I went from 2 pot to 4 pot, then to large brembo set up,even 4 pots are poor if you go above 300bhp and use the car on track.
I found 4 pots with decent performance discs and pads were ok on the road.
