Brembo discs with micro cracks
Hey all,
Anyone else suffered from this issue? i was looking at the discs on my car the other day and noticed they were developing micro cracks.
I drive pretty hard and the discs have done track days etc (not recently) - just wandered if anyone else had suffered with Brembos going the same way?
What discs do people have that havnt had this issue under constant abuse?
Thanks

most discs will suffer very minor thermal cracking whne used in extreme, generally speaking it is nothing to worry about and simply a cause of use...........look at any race car and you will see similiar
however, i would strongly recomend you inspect on a frequent basis to mke sure they don't deteriorate

Quote from Pagid literature:
HEAT CRACKS
Multiple hair line cracks in both the pad and disc surface are normal and accepted in this type of
application. And any pad de-lamination is prevented by the patented retention studs.
Heat cracks in the disc surface must never reach the inner or outer edges of the disc. If in doubt
replace the disc, rather than risk failure during use.
If its any consolation I have AP 6 pots and I have this micro cracking as well as a result of track use. Not worried about this but will be replacing my discs soon as well worn.

Thanks for the info guys....wanted to make sure but everyone has confirmed my suspicions - frequent checking will now occur and with no track days due until next seaon then hopefully all will be well.
Could be an excuse to get the performance friction bell discs

Alyn can supply PF discs to fit AP bells (as well as for Brembos). He reckons the PF discs are the dogs danglies, I've bought a set with RS29 pads and will be fitting soon.
The PF discs come already heat cycled so pad bedding procedures can be done immediately without concern for disc heat cycling. I'm hoping that they will be less prone to this heat cracking but only time will tell on that. I have a mate who has PF discs on his Brembos and PF 01 pads (high friction, astonishing bite), these show no signs of these cracks despite some fierce track use. I suppose it must depend a bit on the grade of iron used to make the discs.
