As above, EBC turbo grooves with reds. just bedded them in , just done some hard brakeing to try them out, then the brake pedal went really soft and spongy.
Is this normal??

 

Mine do it, not really impressed with the reds at all, the sooner they wear out the sooner I can replace them with a pad that works!!

 

Which pads would you use with the turbo grooves disks other than the reds??

 

if reds are supposed to be good trackday pads, how come they go ****e after a little bit of hard braking on normal roads.
may order a set of greens me thinks.

 

I had greens on the turbogroove initially, two seperate sets of disks warped using greens and then the reds went on the the disks haven't warped yet...

 

to be honest, i thought the standard discs with 1144's and two pots were better than what ive got now

i saw you mention in a thread once that you were going to get them re-bled. have you, and if so did it make any difference?

 

have any of you removed the pads to see if the material is separating from the backing plate?.this is what happened to my EBC yellows ,spongy pedal and thought I had cooked the fluid until I took the pads out to see why they were squealing so much.

I have tried greens,reds and yellows and have to say that the reds only problem,was that they did not last.

 

might just check them when i get the chance.
if they are coming appart will i get free replacements?

Had reds until yesterday..... They wore down faster than I expected??????? Had to get a set of Subaru (MANY THANKS TO GUYS AT "TILEYS"IN BRISTOL) pads. I find them better than the EBC's.... I did not expect to say it but its true. I think EBC need to re-think who they get their pads from.

 

I got mine from TN too on their recommendation as their boss was running them and had no probs. No offence to the guys at TN who are a top bunch and very professional but these brakes are pants and I wish I'd kept the subaru stuff
I didn't get them re-bled, didn't see the point after other people were having the same problem - I've kept my eye on the pads and can't say I've noticed anything untoward..........

 

Hmm, I've just swapped my Mintex 1155s for some EBC reds. Still bedding them in, so no opinions yet.

I've had:

Original Subaru pads (crap, IMHO)
EBC Greens (warped a set of Black Diamond discs)
Mintex 1155s (crap initial bite, good overall stopping ability, far too much dust and squealing)
EBC Reds (no opinion yet, except good initial bite)

I think I may try some Ferodos next time, perhaps the 2500s.

 

they must be very inconsistent,because like the TN boss,I found them a great all round pad for both road and track use,the only problem was they wore out so quick.this was why I then tried the yellows but they were terrible from cold,squealed like a pig on the road but lasted well on track.at the second track day the pedal went spongy.the place I got the pads from knocked the price of the Reds off a set of Pagid blues.I find these the best all round pad to date but managed to cook them at the second track day I used them at,took them out and sanded them to remove burnt material but the disc started to rust at the edges so they were not working properly so changed them for another set of Pagids.

I have never (touch wood) warped a disc but have cracked a set of OEM with the EBC's reds but have run Pagid 16groove,since fitting the yellows.

 

Ooooh! I'm a bit worried. I'm just about to fit EBC turbo groove discs and Greenstuff pads (all already purchased), but from what I've read I *may* have problems.

Think I'll suck it and see. My mate has fitted the same combo to his turbo Legacy and reports no problems ...

I went through two brand new sets of turbogroove and greenstuff and the discs warped - only the third set and reds didn't - good luck. Have to say though thought that the greens were a much better pad.

On what MY did you fit your EBC pads/discs? 2-pot or 4-pot? Front I assume too. Just wonder if it's related to that .... I'm looking to put them on a MY97 with the standard 2-pots.

P.S. Apologies for hijacking the thread, but maybe I should get Redstuff straight away, or Mintex, or Pagid and dump the Greenstuff ...

 

It was on a MY99, so 4 pots and yep - on the front.

Could be a different kettle of fish with 2 pots, I thought the greens had much better bite although I never worked em hard to see what they were like at fading..................

 

looking at ferrodos as an alternative option, 4003's i think are recommended.
does anyone know anywhere decent where i can order a set at a reasonable price, and how much theyre gonna cost?

I've had DS25000 recommended and fitted by TSL, along with their Group N discs. Well impressed at the mo - was playing how late can I brake at roundabouts on the A5 yesterday coming back from the karting. Each time I was left thinking, hmmm... leave it even later next time.

DS 2000 & 2500 = £133
DS 3000 = £150
DS 4003 = £140

havnt phoned TSL yet. BTW cheers for advice chris, will try them as well.

 

Stick with DS2000, DS2500 or DS4003

DS3000 is a competition pad and Ferodo do not recommend it for road use.
