Strange noise on Right hand turns 1999 Classic
Hi All,
I've just changed my Pads & Disks all round with a set supplied by godspeed brakes & now I've put it all back together I'm getting a strange noise from the back nearside, sort of Chuffing rubbing type noise so something rotational.
Now the strange thing is the noise is only present when doing a sharp right hand turn (Roundabouts etc...) & totally absent at all other times, I've taken the wheel off again & can't see anything amiss.
I was thinking that I'd put something back together incorrectly but have checked everything in comparison to the rear offside & compared it to a before pic & nothing looks out of place.
Logical thinking is that if it was soemthing to do with the brake swap I'd get the noise all of the time.
I've tried sharp left hand turns in an empty car park & can't replicate the noise.
I had very simalar noise a while back (again right turning) & it went away on its own.
Anybody got any ideas ? Hub assembly etc.. appears tight with no play in it.
Car is 40mm lowered & its a 1999 Classic 4 Dr
Thanks in Advance.
Andy

I had this problem last summer on my wrx import, i changed the diff the shafts and still never found a cure..However i bought another scooby with the same problem just had a brake overhaul and it could only be rectified by changing the rear struts im afraid. I have heard that if able to you can adjust the ride height slightly and it also can solve it...

sounds like the disc is rubbing on the back plate slightly under load , you might have a slight bit of play in the bearing so under hard cornering the disc is touching , have a look and just bend the backplate back a bit , you could have bent it while stripping it all down

Good Call Ian, Thinking on it the sound is a light Chuffing type noise so its something only lightly rubbing somewhere, I'll give the disk backplate a bit of a talking to in the morning (If it stops raining that is) & the Nearside rear caliper was the only one that didn't want to undo easily so could well be the backplate needing adjustment.
Brakes are fab by the way, Next door neighbour was impressed with the new look, the noise & the onset of the rain prevented me from too much of a bedding in drive today.
