Default Scraping PF brakes after track day

Had some PF pads and discs fitted to my 03 sti abt 6 months ago. I've done 1 Don Palmer driving course and 1 track day at bedford and the brakes are starting to scrape already. I dnt really drive the car much. Mainly just used for track days. I had a quick look at the pads and there seems to be plenty left on them.

Any ideas??

Hi Mike.

Best to whip them off and have a quick look.

That way you can check the discs, pads and pistons.

Cheers,

Bob

Sounds like brake pad deposits. Do the discs have a slightly smeared/mottled appearance. I get this after track days and it goes away on its own after a week or so of normal use to wear this off. BTW my instructor says if this is happening in the first place then I am braking too hard/late.

Deposits occur when the pad temperature limitation is exceeded. You could look at pads that will take a bit more temperature (such as Pagid Blue) and/or improve ventilation to the back of the disc. On my 03STi I have cut holes in the plastic wheel arches at the front and leave my "fog light" covers off on track so lots of cold air gets behind the front wheels, works a treat.

If they are getting too hot, then some ducting can go a big way towards helping (as above).

If you take the brakes off you will be able to inspect the insides of the discs and pads also.

Yes, no problem, a bit of abuse might even out the deposits. Try to brake just a little lighter and earlier and you'll find that you will be able to get the car more settled into corners and carry more exit speed. Also if you **** up your braking point you haver a bit of room to adjust.

BTW are these PF Z pads, they'll still work even when on fire although they lack the ultimate bite of the PF 01 pads or Pagid Blue.

The 01 pads will stop you a lot harder to the point you will be surprised. Still work when very hot but beware they do create rusty appearing burnt on deposits on your alloys and do seem to eat into the discs a bit.

Mate has PF 01 pads but having to look at getting his wheels refurbed for the second time is considering going to Pagid Blue, which is what I use for track and road without making a mess of my wheels.

Pleasure to be of help. BTW all mine and the mates brake stuff is from Alyn, I wouldn't go anywhere else for brake advice and parts.

Remember what has been said about ventilaion, as BOB'5 says ducting would be ideal (but I found too difficult to arrange) or failing that my solution which seems to be adequete for me. Alyn will prob say the same.
