Default Tyre size/make and offset

hi all
i have found a set of rims that i want but wasnt sure of the right offset for my car...i have a 99 impreza classic..?? the rims are ET45
also what size tyres are best?? i am lookin to lower it a bit so would 205/40/17 be best??

Offset means nothing if the spokes don't clear the calipers.Seems a lot of aftermarket wheels will have an offset of ET45~48ish.

Tyres look at 215/40/17's or 205/45/17 more choice in the former size though.
