Default New Pads - Black Diamond Predator Fast Track

Lo peeps !

Thanks for the help on here the other day ... In my typical style I went and did my own thing anyway.

Basically to cut a long story short-er I tried a mates classic and thought his brakes (std scooby 4&2 pots) with upgraded discs and pads with braided hosing were far superior to mine.

As I have the brembos with brembo pads on my hawkeye I assumed it would be the braided lines making a difference so I got this done. It did make it "feel" better (which was what I expected) but obviously didn't make it stop any more.

Anyhow on here I was advised to go the ferodo/mintex/brembo or performance friction route all of which are pretty expensive (I'm not doubting their credentails though). As I couldn't really afford it this month went to order the BD Fast Road pads and was told that really if I intended to drive it quickly I really should get the FT pads which I then did.

FK ME WITH A SHOVEL THEY ARE FKIN AWESOME !!!!!!!

They have almost ZERO bedding in time (it says that on the box which smells of dead fish but I assumed it was marketing bull) and as they heated up a little got better and better. So much so that it's hard to believe the difference from my older brembo pads (these may have been the road pads though).

So in short I see a lot of different pads being discussed on here and I couldn't get a review for the BD FT pads anywhere so decided to just have a punt. Can't comment on life or wear yet but for performance they are awesome.

Can't give you a side by side comparison of them next to the other makes but from Brembos pads to these the difference is shocking I think.

If you are looking for a set you want FT430 fronts and FT438 rears. (most places list this as a mitsubishi part (I assume some of the evos have these fitted..but then you may know that )

They sell for (scooby parts -89 front and about 65 rears) you can find them cheaper though think I paid £135 total for mine in the end.

I also bought a second set ... (basically delivery fked up so I bought a second set ) which I'll either keep or sell to someone else if they fancy trying them.

Anyhow especially for you track day nuts gotta be worth a go if your supplier is stocking them!

The BD pads for the scooby brembo's is the same as the Alfa Brembo all you have to do is cut the wear sensor wire off and job is a good un, also the alfa part is only £42 + postage. It's the same old thing with Scoobs and Evo's, they seem to add unrealistic prices because of what the cars are.

These are the Fast Track not the Fast Road pads. But I do agree with the daft prices!

As far as I can see looking through the entire BD part list for Alfa they in fact dont have any FT pads at all?

And where from BTW? Good prices!

I'd corrected my mistake about compund just before you posted, currently Rimstyle.com doing the pads for the scooby 4 pots and brembos at daft as you say prices.

The Alfa model is the alfa166 3.2 v6 from 2003 on.

You did say the FT are £60 .... they dont sell FT pads for the Alfa ?!?!? so where's that price from ?

Anyhow I'm very happy with mine ... the FT pads that is

We sell Performance Friction Z compound pads for just £10 more than what you paid.

They are excellent both on road and track with very good longevity.

Glad you're happy with yours though. Just thought I would put the record straight regarding PF being expensive.

Cheers,

Bob

Well you said they were £166 front and back when I asked .so £31 ..... don't know about delivery was that on top?

Not saying this £31 isn't worth it but every penny counts.

I'm not being funny mate but what is ?!?!?!?

They sell two types of pad ... fast road ... AND .... fast track.

They sell Fast Road pads for the Alfa .... the DO NOT sell Fast Track pads for the Alfa. They are a totally different compound!

I'm happy to corrected if I'm wrong but as far as I can see they do not sell FT pads for any Alfa model ???????? So how can FT pads be £60 as you've just said ?!?!?!

sometimes you wonder why you bother posting really ...

The Alfa Brembo Pad and the Scooby STI Brembo pad are the same shape and dimension, the only differnce between the two is that the Alfa has a built in electronic wear sensor.

Now as you do not need a wear sensor on track you can buy the FT pad for the Alfa and as such companies such as rimstyle actually sell them for £61 plus postage.

Now i am sorry that you seem to have difficulty with this, all i was trying to do was offer some help.

I'm not being funny with you I'm just struggling to understand ... Black Diamond DO NOT sell a pad with the FT compound for the ALFA as far as I can see ... that's the bit I'm struggling with !

To make things simple for you and me can you just post a link to the brake pads you're talking about I've just gone and looked again and Rimstyle only sell pads (for Alfas) starting with PP indicating they are made with the "Fast Road" compound ???

anyone else get where I'm coming from or am I going ever so slightly fkin mad ???

I would say yes. I'm on the verge of ordering the same for my 55 plate WRX. Let us know how you get on with them once you've fitted them.

I've found a place doing the Fast Track for £69, so may give these a try instead, going by what Pants has said.

I think you're trying to wind me up so I'm not saying this again.... if you are not please follow your own postings ...

....

You were basically saying that you can get the pads for less money buying them for an Alfa 166 (and I agree although not trying them that you can get fast road pads but not fast track pads which are not the same thing)

I informed you that you can't get the FT compound pads for ALFAs.

You told me that you can get them for £61 from Rimstyle

I asked you to post up a link

......

......SO YOU POST UP A LINK FOR STI Std 4pots whats that got to do with Brembos or Alfas this is something totally different .........

...... I'm asking you a very simple thing......

If you "think" you can get pads for an Alfa as you say in FT (that's fast track not PP fast road) compound please post a link.

If you cant put up a link that is for
alfa166 3.2 v6 from 2003 on front and rear pads (In FAST TRACK that is a code starting with FT) please at least have the courtesy to say so on here !!!!!

.....I apologise for getting shirty but frankly I put up a review here to help others make an informed choice when they are next choosing brake pads and I get BOB who sells "performance friction" telling me he can do them for £145 which must be a price drop because they were 160 the week or so before (
Originally Posted by BOB'5

)(which is fair enough if this the correct price and I'll probably give them a whirl next time then) and you Tazz who seems unable to fatham that pads come in different compounds. Just makes my head spin ......

sorry for being a stressy stresspot

Now when i use the link it takes me here to this text

"Black Diamond Predator Fast Track Pads (FRONT)
Performance Track Brake Pads
Fitment: Subaru Impreza

* WRX STi 2.0 Turbo 4WD (2001 >)

Product Information:

+ NEW track racing pad compound!
+ Unbelievable RESPONSE, GRIP and POWER!
+ Ideal for track and fast road use
+ Drastically reduced brake dust levels
+ Reduced bedding–in times and disc wear
+ Built in heat transfer layer
+ Operating temperatures in excess of 700deg
+ Direct replacement for originals

Black Diamond Predator Fast Track pads are an aftermarket brake pad for the front wheels of heavier sports saloons, SUV´s and MPV´s. Predator Fast Track pads are a Regulation 90–approved pad with a maximum operating temperature in excess of 700 degrees. Due to their built in heat transfer layer next to the backing plate that transfers heat away from the disc and pad there is no brake fade at all! With a friction coefficient of 0.3, Predator Fast Track offers enhanced levels of ´bite´ while the pad´s ceramic composition drastically reduces dust levels compared with semi–metallic types. The use of Black Diamond´s ´Fast Bed´ coating also means bedding–in times are reduced – as are levels of disc wear.

Though Black Diamond Predator Fast Track pads are compatible with all manufacturer´s discs, for optimum stopping power and performance we recommend the use of Black Diamond discs. Even better, Black Diamond discs all round with Predator FT pads on the front and Black Diamond´s Predator pads on the rear – a superb setup!

Don´t forget to check out Black Diamond performance brake discs range, the Black Diamond brake hose kits for a superbly firm and controllable brake pedal action, and the performance clutch kits range."

I was not trying to hijack or misdirect, only to point out that the same pads can be found for a very reasonable price.

On that website, if you put in WRX 2001 on, it brings up the wrong pad. My 55 plate pads come up under 1998-2000. Shame, because the wrong pads are much cheaper!

Just thought I'd mention it!
