Default Wheel balancing weights

Should the weights be on the outside of the wheel (hammered on) or on the inside (sticky weights) or doesn't it matter?

It is impossible to balance a wheel properly without applying weights to inside and outside rims. Some tyre fitters claim to "fit weights only to the inside rim, to keep your alloys looking nice", but they're doing a half-assed job, no matter how many years they've been doing it, and how well they know their job, etc...
A pro will use sticky weights on the inside rim, and just behind your spokes on the outside.

I had mine balanced the other day and the chappy used stick on for inside and outside (just inside the spokes as above) and they were spot on - I was asked first which kind of weights I wanted on the outside - but it didn't cost anymore for the stick on.

you can't get it wrong nowadays though our machine at work has different variations of weight placement so you pick the one you need, then you pull the arm out if your using stick on weights and place it against the wheel where you want the weight to go then pull it a bit further and touch the rim just behind the spokes so that sets that place as well then spin it up.
if need be you can tell it to hide the weights behind the spokes so you can't see them at all
when you are ready to stick the weight on, the arm is used to hold the weights and you pull it out again until it beeps that means it's set to exactly the same point where you set it to then move the arm up and the weight is stuck to the wheel dead straight and in the exact same spot you wanted it to be in.

it's so easy to do

Also guys you need to have ya tyres fitted with the tyre marker in line with the valve. Got some new alloys recently with the markers not aligned at all and over 15 balancing weights . Complained an got them re fitted correctly - which resulted in Far less weights. Looks a lot better.
