Default tyres on 17 sti rims on a classic.....

Just fitted some 17 sti rims on my classic the tyres are 205 40 17 and the chap at the tyres place says that the tyres are too narrow for the wheels.

Is he right ?? cause the tyres are only few months old and don't fancy forkin out another few hundred quid just for some 215 40 17's ??

ordered some 17" alloys for my classic on Monday, with Toyo 205/40/17 tyres, had an email from the company today saying if I wanted the wheels, I would HAVE to have 215/40/17 on an Impreza!! thay wanted an extra £165 for the Toyo's in that size The bloke down the tyre place must be right mate!

Wheels are 7.5" wide and defo need a 215 tyre minimum. Ideally you would run 225 but classics run fine on 215/40/17 any bigger and you run the risk of rubbing.

I bought x4 Toyo T1R's from Cheap Tyres Discount Tyres & Japanese Import Car Parts Spares Tuning Performance :: for £264 delivered. Brilliant next day service. Cost £40 for fitting and balancing at my local so thats 4 fitted around the £300 mark for some pretty good tyres in the right size

215/40 17"s are the accepted size for those rims and a classic.

If you've ever watched the tyre fitters trying to get one on/off, it's a tight fit

Its acceptable to have 205's fitted on a 7.5" rim, although 215's are a better fit.

I had no isses on 8" rims with 205 section tyres.
