Default Stone Trapped in the Brakes?

One for the morning everyone (being i'm posting at 1am!).

I've been trawling the various threads and it seems some others have had a stone get caught between the hub plate and the disc before causing what sounds like a metal on metal noise/grinding?

My MY03 developed this yesturday on the rear n/s and assuming it was pad wear or a stuck claiper/pad i whipped the wheel and caliper off to loosen and copper grease it all up.... all back together and the noise remains!

Its not a rumble... and its only on a certain part of the rotation of the wheel that it makes the noise so i assume its not a bearing (oh and pad wear was even and no brake liner visible).

Has anyone else had this problem? And if so was it a stone?

Next step is to get the disc off and check the back i guess but if its a more common/serious issue i want to be careful not to drive!

Let me know your thoughts if you'd be so kind!

I heard somone say a way to get rid, is to reverse (in a big open area) on full lock quite quickly.

Might be worth a go mate.

I'll give it a go i guess... see if it pops something out - of course if its a driveshaft or the diff that might not go down too well!

Wink

TBH, you can see if it's a stone. Identify which wheel, (with the aid of an assistant ), whip that wheel off, and just have a look between the disc and the backplate.

When it happened to mine, it was a stone no bigger than a child's little finger nail
Made an AWFUL noise though

Stone was/can be removed with the aid of a screwdriver to gently lever the backplate so the stone drops out.

Thanks for the tips....

I drove it today... nothing to start with but after 11 miles just as i was pulling into work it came back but seems quiete (stone wearing down maybe?!).
I'm off now to take the wheel, caliper and disc off so i can check to see if it is something behind the disc and between the hub plate. A mate also said to whack the cra out of the caliper with a rubber hammer to get all the dirt loose.
Such an annoying thing its driving me crazy!

Worse case I'm going to get Kwik Fit over the road to stick it on the Two Poster so i can free spin the wheel and have a listen but if everything is ok after the disc comes off i have no idea wtf it can be!

Found the lil mo fo!!

Sure enough there it was wedged between the disc and the hub guard!....

Whipped and flicked into a nearby drain!

At least i've managed to diagnose and solve the problem without the need for a mechanic or dealer - loving how easy the rear brakes are to change to! Ksport on the horizon me thinks! (especially if the fronts are as easy).
