Question Re-painting calipers ?

I want to re-paint the gold Brembos in black to match my car, and advise on preparation and what paint to use ?

Cool

Just done a similar job on the silver, (bare metal?) Brembos on my lad's Clio 197.

We cleaned them with meths, and painted with two coats of Smoothrite red at about 30 minute intervals. We used brushes, one half inch and one kids painting brush for smaller bits.

Don't worry about painting every scrap, most of it can't be seen once the wheel is on
Also, use thinner, rather than thicker coats, to avoid runs and drips. From close up, you can see the brush marks, but from 6 feet away, no chance

You can get the "Brembo" decals off the internet, he paid £5 for 6, in white, but other colours are available.

Nowt to stop you, but "have to"? Nope. Mine and both my lads' cars are done with Smoothrite, with no sign of problems after a few years.

Loads of colours available now too.

I used a red enamel on my classic for pots and they came up a treat, i used a brush and apart from hitting them when changing the wheels they have stood up really well.

From memory i thought hammerite/smoothrite was not sutable for use on alloy.

Cheers

Yeah you're supposed to use their metal primer on aluminium, test on a small spot first and if it reacts then you will need to prime first.

Otherwise just get it brayed on!
