Rear brake advice for classic
Hi All
After some brake advice for my RA (2000 model). I've been getting a lot of vibrations when braking and had the front discs checked, these were just past the point of being skimmed so forked out 500 quid getting replacement discs and pads (prodrive alcon set up). Thats made a big difference however when braking from high speeds theres still a lot of vibration and it turns out i need rear discs and pads to!
The rear ones are currently the standard setup so i'm wondering if i should take the opportunity to upgrade them and compliment the front a bit more?
Not sure how much replacement discs and pads for standard setup costs, not got any prices yet.
What do you think my options are? should i upgrade to the later 2001 onward 2 pot setup or is there any other kits/options?
Any help / advice much appreciated!

I've just converted to newage 2-pot rears on my MY99 wagon (still got Subaru 4-pots up front), and found it a good upgrade, especially for trackdays. Got discs, pads and brackets from Ian Godney (Godspeed), as-new calipers from a trader on fleabay, plus chucked some braided hoses on whilst I was at it. Didn't realise the newage calipers are quite light alloy jobbies too, bonus!

Cheers guys, would you say its a worth while upgrade then? the standard discs are only about 45 quid to replace with pads on top so will work out quite a bit extra for the upgrade kit and second hand calipers..
Anyone know of any for sale?
Am i right in saying the standard calipers are single pot ..sliding.. type? and the standard discs are 266mm?

Not sure what the calipers are on an RA, UK cars were single pot sliding as you say.
Worthwhile upgrade? Hmmmmmm.
I suppose if you need pads and discs, the calipers and fitting MIGHT be deemed a good buy.
Personally, I did mine as I wanted larger brakes under my 17's, and I had some money at the time

In my case, I've a wagon (with towbar!), so the rear weight is a bit higher, and I found the standard 1-pot sliding rears struggling a bit i.e. high pad wear. Much better with the newage 2-pots.

type r had 290mm disks and 190mm diameter for handbrake. UK cars had 266mm disk with 170mm handbrake.
might be worth putting a tape measure over yours to see what size you already have.

I have some Ian Godney (Godspeed) 325mm rear discs for a MY98-00 UK Car using the standard single pot caliper. I was going to go for the 2 pot and kit option, but Ian advised larger rotating diameter on a single piston would provide better stopping power.
I have these for sale for £300 ono, I bought them for £625 in March this year. Will sell with a set of new boxed Mintex pads.

I have gold brembo's at the front and std rears, never had any issues on track.
Save your money.
