Default Brembos over std 4 pots

hi guys

whats the difference in stopping power between stock 4 pots and the sti brembos with gold calipers from a new age - these are to go on a classic?

are they worth investing in if im running 300+ bhp? because it was at about 280 and the 4 pots were pap

the brembos will give far better stopping power although a lot of it is down to the pads that are fitted aswell.

the standard 4 pots should not be pap unless the pads that are in them are crap or the pistons are seized/partially seized

Second hand Brembo's plus Performance Friction discs and pads are (almost) as good as AP's.... but cheaper !

IMHO

You should have tried a classic without them...

14,000 miles from new I got the lot changed for free as they "crazy-paved" into little bits....

I remember test driving 2 bug eye wrx about a year ago....worst brakes Id ever used! My brembos are immense on the sti! I had 330mm conversion done on my 172 and its knowhere near as good as the brembos. Definately worth the money if you are serious about stopping! As said, cheaper than APs

I've got the Gold brembo's, there awesome with performance friction pads.

Wheels are the issue though, i went speedline corse tarmac rims. lots of clearance.

I would try good pads first in the 4 pots you have.

I got my 4 pot calipers refurb'd last year at Godspeed as the pistons had siezed and the brakes were crap....they are much better now but still lack that bit of force i thought they should have, so i ordered the 335mm kit for the 4 pots from Godspeed Brakes there last week with ds2500 pads ....Ian Godney says they will arrive tomorrow (Monday) so i cant wait to get them on and see how they perform....oh and they fit under my speedline 17inch alloys, and i knew the brembos wouldnt so this is also why i didnt go for them!!

You could always paint them?

I'm with you though really, 625 sheets for some spacers and discs does seem a lot of cash, especially as you will need to replace them at some point even if it is in a couple of years. Not doubting they are very good and certainly the sort of thing I'm after but the cost seems a little prohibitive compared to 'big brake' conversions on other car makes.

I have swapped over from the standard 4 pots to the Brembos on my car and the difference is night and day!

You have much better pedal feel and just do not requrie as much braking effort to stop you from any speed.

Brembos + Performance Friction Discs and Pads are really very, very good. Had a chance to drive a car with them fitted and they were on par with my AP 6 pots (I can't say they are better after spending ££££ on APs ) I did perfer the Z compound PFC pads to the Yellowstuff 'R's fitted to my APs.

BOB you traitor.... LOL

DunxC

P.S. After a track-day at Blyton (Rallycross circuit) my brakes felt a little "numb", should I go for an up-grade of the pad material ?

Has anyone ever tried the D2 racing brakes? I can get a set of 8 pot 356mm complete kit, bells,ss lines, pads, brackets etc for £590 delivered. My 95RA brakes are rubbish and was looking at these.

Got these fitted to my WRX wagon a couple of months ago, initially not that impressed, but very pleased with them after they were bedded in. It took about a month and 2000 miles before I really tried them out. Have given them a bit of track action and had no fade. Be warned, they did not fit under my 17'' alloys (as promised by Ian) and I had to buy new wheels to make them fit!

Performance Friction Brakes
I find that hard to believe, especially considering you're peddling Performance Friction gear. In my experience the Brembos on my STI are adequate but nothing more, (perhaps I need better disks and pads). The AP set up I had on my Evo (six pot caliper and 362mm disks) was nothing short of awesome. Tell you what Bob, you send me a set of Performance Friction disks and pads and if they're as good as you say (on par with six pot APs), I will gladly pay you £50 over what you normally sell them for. However if it's sales patter then I'll pay £100 less.

fitted brembos on mine today and even without bedding in yet feel much better than the 4 pots, added bonus is they look a lot better as well, I got brembos and sti wheels and taking into account selling my old stuff has worked out cheaper than a big disc kit.
