What tyres for PFF7's

At the moment I have Pirelli P Zero Nero 225/40/18's but they are 3-4 mm.
I am looking to replace them and will try any recommended make.
I could do with 235's (if these will fit and drive ok) as I would like to protect the alloys from any accidental kerbing.
Also, I am not a crazy driver and don't want anything that reqiuires warming up before it sticks and doesn't wear too quickly.
Any comments welcome
