Exclamation

Just thought I would pass this one as it has relevance to three threads on this forum regarding brake efficiency first thing in the morning.

For a start the other threads are :

http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=66016
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=63906
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...threadid=66493

I call my local dealer this morning and asked if they knew of a problem and to my suprise seemed to know all about it after asking me a few to the point questions.

They even sent me the Service Bulletin - they didnt say it was confidential so I thought I would share it.

They dont sayt it is a fault of their pads or discs, but more the compound of the salt spread on the road - so I guess other vehicles could suffer the same problem - my dad has noticed similar problems with his car (not scooby).

I will be calling my local council tomorrow to find out what they use.

T.

Would be good to build a picture of the affected areas in the UK - dont know about ROW and what may be used elsewhere.

On the radio this morning, 210FM covering the Berkshire and North Hants region of the country, had a report in the news regarding the AA.

The AA are pushing for consistant gritting policies across all counties. Currently this is done at the discretion of each county, but if this was to come into force it could lead to more gritting taking place.

There was no mention regarding a councils being forced to use a suitable salt for the gritting.

Could be worth forwarding the bulletin to the AA for them to see what they say.

Quite incredible.

Local Authorities covering the roads with a substance that melts the ice, but makes your brakes totally ineffective

There will be some massive law suits regarding this.

Well at least it's not another feature of the car

Hope you all live beside a long straight and clear road peeps. Otherwise what happens when your first "sharp" application fails to produce the desired result?

For your information. The day our brakes failed, I'd noticed their perfomance had deteriorated. Thinking it may be glazed pads I did a little enthusisatic breaking before parking on the drive.

Wife took it out later no brakes! Take great care.

Question

Thanks Trumble for posting this up, very useful!

Can't believe that councils started using this with no forewarning to the public (or can I?)!!!

Anyone noticed this in Hertfordshire?

Cheers
Tim

Its a bit worrying that the author of this official document from Subaru does not know that the chemical formula for magnesium is Mg and not Ma - especially after spouting all that "chemistry"! Lets hope the rest of the information is more accurate !!
