Default bit of a random one,

i have stripped the rear brakes off the back of the car, did this about a month ago, had the calipers re-furbished, painted up the carrier etc,
the problem is, the calipers are sided, and they have L + R embossed on them,
is that siding taken from sitting in the car facing forward or standing infront of the car looking towards the bonnet?
i want to get the brakes back on today and need some help!
